Default Is this 1965 mustang rare?

A friend of mine at work recently bought an early 1965 convertible mustang. I was just curios as to how rare his car might be. It is the 200 sprinter 6cyl model but it also has a factory 3 speed on the floor transmission. I told him I would try to find out some production numbers if possible. Thank you for your help and I am now finally a made member, woo-hoo Lol.

73,112 convertibles made in that year, but my book doesn't say what engines they say. I doubt it's any more rare than mine: 6121 convertibles in 72 overall

Default Sprint 200 Convertible

The term "Sprint" could be attributed to a 1966 Mustang built as early as November 1965:

Millionth Mustang Sprint 200

The convertibles with the 200ci 6 were a lot more rare than the hardtops, but not particularly collectible.

Here's a link to the produciton numbers for 1965. The convertible with a bench seat would have been a relativley rare (but unpopulat) car...

I don't see anything rare about that car. The 6 cyl with 3 spd is the base drivetrain offered. Depending on how early that car is the 200 may have been an option over the base 170. The 170 was dropped and the 200 became the base motor during the long 65 model year.

Veronica would problably know when the 170 was phased out although it might vary between plants as supplies were used up.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Yup, you made Made Member with post #251. The 200 inline 6 is fairly common, 35.6% had this engine. The rarest option was the no heater option, 1.1% had that one. The K code engine was in 1.3%, bench seats was in 3%, and the limited slip was in 2%.

Hello. The short version of the answer would be no, a 6cyl, three speed manual is the most common configuration that there was. Base model motor, base model transmission. It also didn't come with the Sprint package. That wasn't introduced until the 66 model year. It can be a very nice car and a lot of fun to have, but it isn't even a little bit rare. It also isn't a particularly early car if it came with the 200 cid straight 6. I've never seen or heard of one that was built earlier than mid august of 64, which was four months into the production year. The 200s were all alternator cars instead of generator cars like the early 170s. If he's really that interested in how early the car is, there will be a scheduled production date on the door tag.
