Default Pertronix II Ignition

I read alot of threads were everyones had good luck with Pertronix Ignition System. My question is has anyone had bad luck. 2 weeks ago I installed a Flame Thrower Coil in my 66 289, Pertronix II (gap the sensor at .030), new plugs gapped at .045, & advanced my timing. Took the car for a test drive, ran great. The next day my daughter went to go to school, she had to turn around & come home. The car was missing real bad at the low end. So I installed new points & condenser, car ran great. 5 days later my daughter is calling stuck on the side of the road. After trying a few things we found there was no spark, installed the old coil and the cars been running great. Is this car Kristen, or has anybody else had this experince.

I've heard of people having more problems with the Pertronix II than the original Pertronix.

I have the original one in my 68 since late 2004 with no problems. I do carry a spare in the trunk just in case since once one does fail that's it. Atleast with points you could usually clean them and open them up again and be able to limp home with them.

(I am one of those that carries a basic toolbox in the trunk along with a spare Pertronix, starter solenoid, and coil. The solenoid and coil were the "ugly" looking originals that were on the car when I got it but since they still worked when I replaced them while detailing the motor they made good spares to keep for emergencies. Never needed them yet but if they do keep "Murphy" away then they're doing thier job! )

I ran the original Petronix unit in a 289 for years with no problems. I have heard some talk of people having problems with the Pet. II, but exactly what the issue was , I don't recall.

My suggestion is to contact Petronix's tech people to see if they have any solutions. Your thinking is much like mine. I carry some parts with me in the trunk along with a good assortment of tools. A broken down Mustang sitting on the side of the road is an invitation to a thief.

To the GREEK, I was thinking the same thing. I need to contact Petronix's and see if they have any suggestions or a refund.

THANKS
