Default whats your favorite part about driving a classic?

Everyone loves them for different reasons. I was just wondering what makes you tick when it comes to your classic? Personally i have several reasons for loving classics, wether it be a ford dodge, chevy or what ever. just some of my reasons are (and not in any order)
1 The knowledge thayour saving a piece of history from disappearing
2 Knowing its your blood sweat and tears thats making it run.
3 the way people turn their heads when they see a good looking piece of their childhood.
4 and honestly i rather like the feel of the brakes, the road noise, the sound of the AM radio coming out of 1 4x10 speaker
5 the smell of an old car!!! ( you all know what im talking about)

The looks people give you and also crushing some kids ego that has a newer import that loses to a 40 year old car lol.

I'm going to add the fact you can work on an older American car with a basic toolkit needing only standard sizes.

The less 'crap' you have under the hood. None of the emissions stuff like today, and most of these cars lacked air conditioning or even power steering so the motor isn't buried behind or under extra stuff.

Wiring simpler to chase out if there's problems due to less options and lack of a computer.

Vinyl seats to roast yourself on.

With some cars the vent windows that draw the air across you while driving.

Headlights and wipers/washers that aren't part of the turn signal lever.

Dimmer on the floor (kinda goes with the above)

The soft green glow of the gauges and AM radio dial at night (atleast with my car)

Seeing names like Rambler on the road. Have to add Oldsmobile and Plymouth to that now too.

Pump the accelerator to start the car. Then having to 'kick it down' a few minutes later on a cold day.

Here in CT getting the antique plates (Early American) and getting a personal property tax break on the car with those plates. Can't do that with a newer car.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Noticing that an 80+ yr. old woman has stopped pushing her shopping basket in the middle of the road to watch me park.

When I exit the car she says "your car really brings back memories for me, I had a mustang just like that years ago....I cried the day I sold it", really makes all the daily maintenance and work worth it seeing the look on her face.
When I got home I told the wife a chick stopped me to ask about my car...

The nostalgia and simplicity, the way it handles and all the above reasons evryone else said!

The beauty of details in the interior and exterior, not cookie cutter molded plastic but workmanship and design.

1. Watching the owner's head of a new Mustang snap around as I go by.
2. Turning the radio off, rolling the windows down and hitting the accelerator as I go over a local bridge with cement walls. The engine/exhaust growl brings a smile to my face every time.

the way the windows on a hard top roll down

the fact that my car has REAL bumpers, not styrofoam filled plastic things

that I can actually SEE the ground under the hood since the only thing in the engine compartment is an engine

the sound of the motor, the feel of the car with no power assisted anything

the way people stop to ask me about what all I plan to do to my car while I am restoring it

the simple joy that it brings

The thing i find the funniest about the 65-68 coupe is they are around 2600lbs thats light a new civic 4 door with every thing added is just under 3000lbs.You gotta love the lines and all the chrome on a older car they look better to me.There not many people dream car that isn't from the 60s or older.

My brother has several classics and I got the bug but unfortunately did not do research and purchased a 66 cpe last april w/a cowl problem. It is a great car otherwise and it was a good price.
Since then I have actually enjoyed researching and learning all about the early stangs. I now go to car shows and will soon join the South Georgia Classic Car Club.
Everywhere I go anytime I stop someone always says something to me about the car. People driving down the road will stick their hand out the window in a peace sign fashion or wave.
What sticks out most is the young teenager at the mall, standing on the sidewalk, long hair, chain hanging off pants, flashing a peace sign as I went by.
I guess it is the fact of owning something that everyone agrees upon as being one of the most recognizable and beautiful model of car ever made and associated with one of the most chaotic time periods of American history.

I miss that 65 impala i had the wing windows are great for a smoker in the winter time. And the fresh air from the cowl vent new cars don't do either of those.

i like my 64 implala, but since i only want one classic, i am choosing to sell the impala and keep the mustang. but i do like the wing windows on the impala, how many cars have that feature? and i love the chrome on both, there is just something about older cars that will always draw my attention. in most cases the older the better!

number one thing: the way people stare at you, the pointing, and the thumbs ups!!! every point and thumb you see let you know you did a great job. And if you restored it yourself like me and my dad did with our '34, it really puts the icing on the cake!!!
2: looking at the engine and NOT seeing all the dern tubes, wires, power steering, etc. stuff in the way! These are REAL cars! (what good is 500 horsepower if it takes 30 minutes to change a single spark plug?! LoL )
3: For being as old as some of these cars are they are actually really comfy to sit in. Our '47 Pontiac feels like driving your couch down the street! And riding in the rumble seat in the '34 ain't bad, just windy LoL

Cars are a big thing me and my dad have in common, we like going down to the shop and fiddling with the cars. And before me and my dad rebuilt the '34 we weren't getting along to well (I was 14-15 years old...) but that got us doing something together, and we have a piece of art to show for it. The liscense plate says "dads 34" since it was his dads, now it's my dads, and someday it'll be my sons dads.
