Default 1967 Mustang... questions about automatic to manual conversion

I have a 67 mustang with a 302. I took out a 3-speed automatic and I am in the process of installing a 4-speed toploader. I cant figure out where to mount the clutch release equilizer bar. It seems that no matter how I try, the steering column or the exhaust pipe are in the way and I cant place the equilizer bar level. Any ideas, pictures or links would be helpful. I am also not sure whether to eq. bar mounts to the firewall or or the sidewall or to whatever else.
