Hello.

: The car should definitely have a title. In Alabama, which was a non-title state for a long time, the car might just have a bill of sale, but, if that's the case, I would definitely run the vin through the DMV to see if it's a stolen car or anything. As far as what to look for, the big deal is rust. On a convertible, it would be mostly in the floors and cowl area. Also, just because a car has a 289 in it right now, that does not mean that this is what it came from the factory with. If you look at the vin of the car, the fifth digit will tell you what the car came with originally. U is a 170 six cylinder, T is a 200 six cylinder, F is a 260 2bbl V8, C is a 289 2bbl, D is a 289 4bbl, A is also a 289 4bbl with slightly more pep, and K is the high performance, 271 hp 289 4bbl. If you click on the little house thingy underneath my post count under my user name, that will take you to my homepage, which will have some information that will be useful to you when you start looking for a car.Hope that helps.
