Question 1968 Mustang, 289 Engine build

I have a 68 Mustang resto/mod project that i just picked up. I am replacing the straight six with a '66 289 that i am going to build. I have a Edelbrock performer RPM intake, my question is which cam should i use to get that hard hitting lick that im always hearing in the old muscle cars. Im trying to figure this out now before i take the heads to get built, so i know what springs and rocker arms i need to use. Somebody help me figure this out. I'm a former Marine Jet Engine Mechanic, but this is a lil bit different than the jet engine that im used to working on. If you have any helpful advice please let me know. thx Marine210204

welcome to the site,enjoy!!!! if you are running an auto,i would suggest the Comp 280H cam.it hits pretty hard and you can get by with a stock converter with no vac. problems.

what converter would you suggest since i have to put one in anyways. Also will the 289 bolt up to the straight six auto tranny???

I suggest around a 3k stall,that will give you a good take off.as for the six trans fitting,i can not remember,sorry.There are alot of people on here that know alot about trans,they will post and give you that info.

I don't think the 289 will bolt to the six tranny, but I could be wrong. However, a T5 or an AOD will bolt right up and mount with minimal modifications. There are plenty of threads here discussing the required modifications for installing either transmission.
