I put a new 302 in my 65 and am having problems with it getting too hot. Temp goes to about 200 degrees so I put an elevtric fan on it but did no good. When it gets hot it doesn't want to shift properly (automatic). Sometimes will not go into reverse or 1st gear. Any suggestion?

There's only a couple parts in the cooling system, Thermostat, Water Pump, & Radiator. Try a thermostat, its the cheapest. Than I would go with a new water pump & if that doesn't work have your radiator overhauled.

Hello. A big vacuum leak would also account for all of that.
