Default 1972 Mustang Mach 1 information

Is there any one place to find information on a 1972 Mustang Mach 1,I bought it yesterday and want to learn as much as possible about it.I ordered the Marti and for a few extra bucks they faxed me a copy with some information but I want to know things like, should my hood have that large rubber piece on it,it said luxury interior but does that mean it came with a center console etc.?

There's not a dedicated site on the net for old school Mach 1's that I'm aware of. I find this site useful though for basic Mach 1 info.

71 429 CJ Mustang and Cougar Megasite

All Mach 1's came with the deluxe interior but the center console was standard. What "large rubber piece" on the hood are you talking about?

Thanks, after searching the piece looks plastic and comes on the CJ cars which mine is not. So my car should have a center console or was that an option?

A good source on these cars is a book titled The Mustang Recognition Guide. You can also join your local Mustang Club. The 72 cars were identical to the 71's, except for changes in engines and the rear Mach 1 gas cap went from flip down type (71) to the screw off type (72). The large console was as option. Most cars came with the mini-console, which is a short plastic piece surrounding the shifter with an ashtray at the end.

Yeah I meant optional but typed standard for some reason. I'm still trying to figure out what the plastic piece on the hood is? Is it on the top of the hood or screwed to the underside of the hood? If it's screwed to the underside it's the plenum for the ram air induction system and you should have an air cleaner with an open top and a rubber seal the matches to the plenum.

Here's a pic of the plenum

And the air cleaner

Not to nitpick your restoration but IIRC ram air was only available on 2V Clevelands from the factory in '72 and'73.

Numbers matching is a gm thing not a ford it means the cars full vin is stamped on the engine tranny and rear end.Ford only put half a vin on the gt and drag package mustangs. And you need a autolite battery for it.
