i need help with a 68 engine bay. i recently bought a 68 fastback shell. my goal is to make a modernized version of "bullitt". i have a 03 cobra with tons of goodies just sitting around(it got rear-ended/totaled), and was wanting to know if there was enough room for the supercharged 4.6. will the broad-shouldered 4.6 fit between the fenders, and will the supercharger clear the hood? im used to restoring cars to original conditions, but im wanting to branch out and make a classic than can handle and perform with the best of the new ones.
Your going to be too tight between the shock towers. As well the supercharger most likly won't clear the hood. If your going to be updating the car to run like a new mustang you should look at Heidts Mustang II coil over front end. You gain tons of room by cutting out the shock towers. As well, the kit comes with Power rack, 11" disc brakes, 2" drop spindles and Tubular upper and lower control arms.
I have this kit in my 68 mustang. Although i went the route of a 1990 EFI 306 Mass air setup.
Heidts also has a bolt in 4 link coil over setup for the rear. I'm going that route next. Heidts Hot Rod Shop - Custom Suspension Systems
Good Luck.

would i be able to cram that motor in if i went with the mustang II coilover kit? i dont mind running a small cowl, but would like to keep it stock looking. i was planning on something like that with a irs kit ive seen in my hotrod magazine, but i was considering a 4link.
I set my motor a 1/8" off the cross member and was just able to close my hood with the TPS just touching the under side. But when i went to a 70mm TB with adjustable TPS mount it no longer cleared. I had to cut a hole around the throttle body so i could close the hood. Good thing is the hood was junk and was planning on going with the RAM Jet fiber glass hood from Mustangs Unlimited anyway.

sounds like it would be easier to sell that motor and go with a efi 306 longblock of maybe a 347 stroker, and just slap a supercharger on the side...where there is more room. thanks for the help...i bet ill be talking to ya again soon. i have ALOT of work to do
i found a d.s.s. 306 level 10 long block with a race prepped t5(traded the o3 cobra motor) and im rounding up the gt(or cobra) wiring harness. it has less than 15thousand miles on it, and has trick flow heads and intake. i know i wont clear the hood with what you told me, but was curious to see how much room i had for a power adder. i thought about a small turbo setup, but decided on a simple supercharger setup. i was wanting to know if there is enough room to support that, much less plumbing and an intercooler..i dont want to chop up everything, because this will eventually become a daily driver.
i know ill have to do a little bit of trimming on the floorboard for the t5, but i was wondering if the 6speed t56 from my cobra is interchangable with the old 5.0 block..i know ill have to find out alot of this as i go, but i want to have as many of my ducks in a row before i get going since this is my first time doing something like this.
You'll have plenty of room for a supercharger once you relocate the battery to the trunk. Most superchargers, paxton, vortech, mount on the passenger side where the battery is. So you'll have to move it to make room. Very easy to do. As well it's a step in the right direction for weight transfer.
If you realy want a lot of room, and build tons of power, go with a remote mount turbo Squires Turbo Systems - Turbocharged Innovation!. Awesome single and twin turbo setups.
Depending on the intakes you go with you may clear the hood. Stock HO will clear. Trick flow might clear. But BBK, Typhoon, Edelbrock...will not. You'll need a little more clearence.

T5 shifter lines up with the hole in the floor for the linkage for a automatic shifter. Not sure how much longer a t56 is. but if it sits back any further then YES, you'll need to cut the floor.

i was planning on relocating the battery regardless. thanks for the info, ill think ill stick with the t5 already on there and sell the t56 and buy something i need
about the hiedts four link rear. i noticed they had an IRS kit. which of the two setups do you think would better?
thanks. i was considering it for a smooth ride, but the other set up seemed more logical. im building the motor right now, and finishing the interior since thats all i have at the moment..the suspension and everything else will have to wait till i get the rust spots fixed. ill post some pix once i start making some progress
well, im coming to a stopping point with the car.. me and my fiance are looking for a home, we are both wanting to fix up the 2 new ones we have, and the shop that my friend and i have together is getting some much needed renovations(and thats were the car is)...im not gonna have money, proper equipment, or time to do serious work on the car.. however, i did buy a junked mustang II and im stripping the front clip...after that the motor will go in. hopefully i can get this done before the shop work gets underway..then its gonna sit for a bit. :-(
