Default What is the value of a '65 289, and what should I do?

I have a '66 coupe, c-code. I recently bought, for what I think is a very fair price, a rebuildable '65 289, c-code engine for the purpose of rebuilding it and keeping mine as-is. I am not positive mine is the original engine, but I am reasonably sure.

Anyhow, what I have been thinking lately is that I am probably better off to buy an engine (long block) kit from PAW. I can buy a 302 kit with my choice of compression ratios, etc., and Windsor jr. heads, all machine work, balanced, and ready to assemble for $2407 https://secure.pawengineparts.com//302_Ford_65-91.html. It seems that my cost to duplicate this engine with machine work and new parts would be more than that.

So the question is.... How much is a 289 engine worth? I have disassembled the engine, but haven't done anything else. I did put all the bolts, brackets, tags, etc. in ziplocks and labeled them. It appears to have not been rebuilt, or even apart before. There are no scores in the bore, so I think it may be good enough to leave the stock bore alone. I guess a lot would depend on whether or not someone is looking for a specific date code and whether mine matches their needs, or not.

What do ya'll think?

Thanks,
Mike

Hello. I have seen in this area 289's listed for anywhere from a couple hundred bucks to 500 dollars. Of course hipo stuff is just a bit higher Try listing it on craiglist and such see if you get a bite..
