Default 427 side oiler questions

My mother wants to clean out my fathers barn and she seems to think this motor needs to go. It is a 427 side oiler that my father bought about 10 years ago. It has a medium riser intake with the 2 4 barrel set up. This motor is in parts, but everything is there I think. Can anyone give me a rough idea what this is worth, and would it make sense to have it built before we sell it? Does anyone know a reputable builder that deals with the FE motors? We live south of Lansing, MI. Thanks for any help.

First are you sure its a 427? If so then it's worth a good chunk of change depending on a few factors. The cylinders, 427s are good for one .030 over bore. The crank the bearing areas should be in nice shape. Do some research before you sell. Look hard and alot and know what the shape of the motor is. I always research the crap out of everything I buy for my old cars. There is a book called Ford High Performance interchange. Pretty good at identifying parts although I did find a couple of mistakes in it. By posting this you'll have alot of people trying to get it for nothing be careful.

Hello. Assuming that you don't have the correct carbs for something in particular, like a 63 1/2 R code Galaxie or a 427 Fairlane or something, then you are looking at something in the 6 to 7 grand range if everything is actually there and also in a usable condition. Hope that helps.

Wish I could offer you what it is worth, wouldn't consider donating it to charity would you?....

Think about keeping it, the motor would look real good sitting in something like a Deuce Coupe and the 'glass repop bodies arn't all that expensive...be a real nice ride!

yes this is a 427, it is not a R code galaxy or fairlane. I do know that everything needs to be cleaned up, the motor has been sitting apart for quite a while. The block has surface rust on it and needs to be tanked.

As much as I'd like to donate this to charity...um no.

I have a 1967 fastback that I'd love to put this in to, but both the car and the motor are techincally my mom's. These were my father's, but he passed away in December. Mom wants to get rid of a lot of his ford things that she has no use for. Not the mustang, if that ever gets sold I get it. I am finishing it in his memory. It just needs paint and to be put back together.

Thanks for everyones reply.
