Default Barnyard Find: 1966 Mustang

Alright, so I have come across an immaculant 66' mustang with a 289 sitting on my grandfather's property. I am planning on doing some engine work for him, and in return he said he would give it to me. This is truly a barnyard special, so I wanted to see what you guys thought. Any suggestions on what I should do after I've got it would be great too!

If its still got the door tag decode it here Classic Mustang Dataplate Decoder if its sat a long time you need to change all the fluids the gas and the fuel filter.Clean and or rebuild the carb. Also check the wiring on the car the brakes etc etc good luck post some pictures when you can.

Default This is great!

I found my '65 after it had been in a barn for 23 years.
I had to replace all the weatherstripping - the windshield leaked, and I had to pull the front and back glass and replace the gaskets.

Like Andrew said, The carb will be a casualty. After I rebuilt the engine, I had exhaust fumes coming in through the trunk where that gasket was dried and cracked.

If there has not been anything done to the fuel system, you may want to replace the gas tank and the fue line for starters. Make sure some critter has not chewed the wiring harness anywhere.

Good Luck!
We need some pics!
