Default 1965 Mustang Steering Wheel

I have a 65 Mustang coupe with an ivy green exterior and what appears to be a combination of ivy green and ivy gold interior. The interior columns around the windshield and the steering column still have the original ivy green paint. My steering wheel is cracking both around the wheel and the center hub. The center hub cracks are making me want to replace the steering wheel. As best as I can tell, the steering wheel closely matches the original ivy green paint so I would think the color would also be ivy green. I have not been able to find a new steering wheel in ivy green. Can someone help me identify what color the steering wheel could be or a source to find this part. Of course I have no original manufacturing tags on the car. I'd prefer to replace the steering wheel with the same one instead of going up to a wood grain wheel. Thanks in advance.

have you checked any of these sites?

Mustang Parts from Mustang Depot, Ford Mustang Parts 1965-Up

Mustang Parts House

Auto Parts, Motorcycle Parts, Car Parts, Truck Accessories & Parts, Auto Accessories - JC Whitney

You may be able to find something within there, I know JC Whitney will do exact replica's if you give them the Vin number so they can identify it...

hope that helps

It is called Ivy Gold and all of the normal suppliers offer the steering wheel in that color. Ivy Gold is misleading as it is actually more of a lime green looking color. Hope that helps.

Mine is dismantled for restoration but is ivy gold/white pony interior. The dash pas is black, the headliner, carpet and kick panels are ivy gold and the door panels and dash are white, the seats are both ivy and white. It is a very strange mix. I will try and get some pics for you of the seats if someone else doesn't post any first.

Click on my avatar to see some pics of an originally restored white and ivy gold interior. Didn't realize an ivy gold steering wheel was an option - mine has the original wood grain. I found that the ivy gold spray cans that were available did not match the ivy gold upholstery from TMI very well and so I had the paint for the doors and front columns color-matched at a local paint shop. Well worth the extra few bucks.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was out of town for a while. Attached are pictures of my interior. It appears to be a combination of ivy green and ivy gold with the steering wheel being ivy green.

Hi again. Thank you, Icerat. That is very sweet of you to say that. And, even better, it's a K code. You can't tell from those pictures, but it also has the 8K tach in the rally pac.

Mach6972, that car had interior code 28, which is probably what yours is. The only thing that's 'wrong' in the interior of the car in the pictures is that it has the deluxe steering wheel, but it was a very, very nice original one that was on the car when I got it, so I left it there. Sadly, I sold the car several years ago, but I was the one that put that interior in it, and it was such a fun car to drive. That's why I remember the interior code.

I'm also having steering wheel issues with my '65. It's also cracked on the wheel and at the hub. So muchso that it is out of "round" and causing short circuit issues with my horn and lights. Does anyone a diagram or photos of how the steering wheel contact should look when it is installed properly. Thanks,Mike

Hi again. I have a section on the horns and another on the turn signals on my homepage that has diagrams and pictures. That might help.

From post #10, can anyone identify the steering wheel color? Could it be a steering wheel from a different year? You can see my seats, carpet and door panels are ivy gold, The dash is ivy green and I have to think the steering wheel is ivy green. Any thoughts on where I could get a matching steering wheel?

Hi again. The steering wheel in the pictures looks like it was Ivy Green 40 years agao, but just got sort of funny-looking with time and use. You should be able to get an Ivy Green steering wheel for your car from any vendor of vintage Mustang stuff. I know that these guys have them. index.htm Hope that helps.
