Default HP gain without altering a classic?

I have the privlege of owning a '69 Coupe in pristine condition with 120,000 original miles. I don't want to alter ANYTHING from the original condition, but wouldn't mind boosting the output of the 302.

Can I alter plugs and gaps or timing or other items to maximize the performance? I'm not willing to change anything that would alter this beauty from her 'original' condition.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest a Petronix ignition swap,K@N air filter, and bump the timing a few degrees.

Some people just want to keep thier cars original and nothing wrong with that. An original 69 coupe, basically any 69 coupe, is rare to see at all. Most of the people go for the Sportsroofs and Machs and Bosses.

I have the Pertonix in my 68 289 coupe. Nice easy install and the car runs smoother. I have the Pertronix I as I've heard the IIs have some problems (higher failure rate, they are picky about the coil they run with and voltage they get). No mods are done to the distributer and the stock points setup could be reinstalled at any time.

A good tune up helps too. Make sure the cap, wires, plugs, rotor and carb are in good shape.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Also change all your fluids over to a good synthetic, like Royal Purple. That is good for a few horses and more mpg.

Without changing things like the ignition or carb, it's tough to make significfant improvements. But it can be done

Make sure all the parts are in good working order, complete tune up, etc.

Set the dwell to be absolutly correct, and check it often.

Advance the timing a little bit.

Make sure the fuel mixture is 12.5-13.5 all the time. Carefull tuning is the key.

Royal Purple everywhere.

Adjust the drum brakes very carefully. Too much drag will definatly slow you down.

Royal Purple is indeed a great product. They stand behind their stuff I've used it for 7 years roughly.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate the thoughts. I was hoping some of yo had experimented with plugs, gaps and timing, but the Petrnix sonds like a good option, as I can switch back to original equipment easily.

I'll definitely be changing all the fluids to synthetic as well, and the drum brake adjustment is a wise one.

I'll post some pictures when I can get my hands on the right camera.

Thanks all!
