Default Installed new weatherstripping and door won't close - help

In the process of a totally restoring my 66 Mustang convertible I am installing new door weatherstripping on doors (I had removed) and in doing so I am experiencing difficulty in closing both doors - I managed to close the passenger door by trimming some of the weatherstripping, but the drivers door is just too tight - any suggestions would be appriciated.

thanks jhc

It has to be something simple. I would pick one of 3 options. One, the weatherstrip is on the wrong part of the door, causing less clearance. Two, the door is just out of alignment either too far forward or down and needs adjustment. Third and I hope not, some welding or body work was done incorrectly and the gaps are wrong now. Check it all carefully and you will find the problem I am sure.

Default I agree with Mitch..........

Probably something simple - new weatherstripping is often very tight.
This might be worth looking at someone else's car to see if you have the rubber strip in the right place.

I think if you had to trim some of the weatherstrip, something is not in the correct place.

Thanks guys - yes as you both commented it has to be something simple and it was. The thght weatherstripping was so tight that it lead me into believing I had the door closed when in fact I was only at the first click or first closed position - I even moved the door latch striker plate in as far as it would go and the door was still off in the open position by a 1/4 inch. My first clue was after I removed all the weatherstripping and closed the door and heard two clicks then realized that I had never reached the second position. Needless to say I am somewhat embarrassed - I promise to work on my troubleshooting technics in the future. Thanks again guys.

Default Good deal - cheap lesson

Hey - at least you got it figured out.
You may have to replace that weatherstrip if you trimmed it, but hopefully it won't be a big deal.
