Default 1969 boss 302 identification

i was looking around for 69 mustangs, and ran across what was said to be a 69 fastback with a 351W. however, the owner said he has had it for 20 year, 18 of which was in storage. the problem is that it does not have any side scoops. I was under the assumption that the boss 302 was the only one that did not have side scoops. i have not checked the vin number. i am doing that tomorrow. the owner said that it was just a rare option. could this be true?

thanks,
Mike

Never heard of a rare option to delete the side scoops on a 69, but with that being said, the Boss 302 did NOT have side scoops in 69.

If it's a true 302 Boss the VIN will have a G (302) for the 5th digit of the VIN. The original engine would have the matching VIN stamped on the rear top of the block behind the intake near where the bell housing bolts up. If he's not 100% sure of the motor it doesn't hurt to look.

If it's a standard Sportsroof or Mach it sounds like someone replaced the quaters at some point or filled in the scoops for some reason. IMHO Maybe the original owner didn't like the look of the scoops and had them filled/removed after taking delivery of the car.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

I have seen a mach1 and other mustangs missing them so the odds are its not a boss only the vin can tell that.
