Default 1969 mach 1 trunk detailing

Hello fellow Ford friends... I am about to paint my ride and I need some help with how the factory detailed the trunk area. Was it sprayed with primer (red oxide I assume), sound coated (looks like undercoating), and then painted the body color? Or was the primer left as is and just sound coated. I guess the third option would be the red oxide primer, sound coat and then over-spray from the body color. I need some help quick it will paint tomorrow. THANK YOU!!

I don't want to insult your intelligence but have you tried to find another car, in person or online, and checked it out. Or maybe a build sheet... or checked a VIN decoder for paint schemes. Click Here for a classic mustang decoder. Hope it helps.

bradsalex, I have looked on line for a concours 1969 mach 1. The problem is that few show the trunk area and when they do the inner rear quarters are in shadow. It is not a matter of paint code, I have that, the problem is the process of how the factory painted the car. Most 1969's I have run across have been repainted and when that happens they usually run the body color into the trunk area so its hard to tell if that was how it was done in the factory. That and the years of grime that build up in those areas tend to make it look all one color... gray black. Thanks for the reply I hope someone on line has done a concours resto before or has a reference book on this.

To answer your question it was primer, undercoat, then exterior body color sprayed completely in the trunk.

Below are a few links of a concourse restored 69 Sportsroof. The trunk was body color but they did spray primer throughout the trunk plus sound deadner on the inside of the quaters and around the seams between the floor panels. The trunk's finished color would be the same as the exterior of the car. NOTE: splatter paint wasn't used in the trunks of Mustangs from the factory, I have seen many done that way but it's incorrect if you're going for originality. GM used splatter paint on thier cars though.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Jay H 237,
Thanks again for the help. I have added the link to this page. This is really helpful I am printing and giving many of these photos to the paint shop so they know the process. I am really getting excited about the paint! factory color but not vin color candyapple red. I looked at 4 factory colors mocked up on an old fender and came back to the red. The car was orig aztec aqua (I just do not like that color) almost went with Gulfstream aqua but changed my mind at the last min.
