That is very true. That's why I always just take the number and tell the paint store that I want the the color with this or that code. The chips are nice to look at if one is trying to decide what color to paint a car, but that really doesn't give you a very good idea of what the car will actually look like. Poppy Red, for example, looks very nice on a chip, looks great on a 69/70 sportsroof (Calypso Coral in 69/70), but looks like someone just clear-coated some red oxide primer or something on a 65/66 car. Not a good look at all.

If that is what one is trying to do, then you would pretty much have to look at cars of the same year model and body style that have been painted that color.
