Question 1960's Mustang for me?

I am 16 and i can't stand my car! I have a DeLorean DMC-12. It is a slow and unreliable piece of junk. What i have been considering doing is buying a mustang from the 1960's. A non expensive one, and put a large engine in it and a better transmission. Then get a local paint shop to put shelby stripes on the car.

Anyone know what year mustang would be the best for this and the most cost efficient. And if it is even a decent idea, if not can you steer me in the right direction

If a DeLorean startes its amazing and yes there junk wiring harness fires are common on them. The 64-66 mustang a 351w and 351c are a tight fit.The 67-73 mustangs both big blocks fit just fine.If you want a cheaper one look at a coupe the fastbacks and convertibles are pricey as hell.Fine you a mustang time line online look at the pictures and figure out what body style you like and go from there.

What he said. A hardtop is going to be the most affordable. Just find out which body style you like the best. For the Shelby le mans style stripes, probably a 64-68 would look the best with these.

A 351W is a very tight squeez in a 1965. My dad has a 1965 Fastback with a 351W 427stroker and had to have gustom made headers plus changing the plugs is a pain. But yes that car will fly like no other. So yeah a 65/66 with a 351 would be a good one to have.

They're all right, you can't go wrong with a coupe. It's the cheapest but still has a badass look with a good paint job. As for the engine, find your local mustang shop and talk to the guys there. Chances are they've done it a couple of times and can give you some good pointers. I have a small block 289 but I love that thing. A 351 would leave me staring at taillights, but I don't need any more than what I have already.
