Default whats a safe hp range for a stock 302 block?

I was talking to a guy and he said that 500-550 hp at the crank. I am wanting to use the original block, boring0.030 over, stroking to 347, using better heads(trick flow) or (victor Jr.), edelbrock intake, and better cam. Looking to make at least 400 hp at the rear wheels. Later on i would like to add a turbo. Is this doable or will the stock block not be able to handle this kind of power? Its a 73 block, if that helps.

500 is the max. after that they like to split in half near the lifters in the cam tunnel. Thats at the flywheel.

A 302 block can handle the power you're looking for but it needs to be properly prepped and you'll need to add a main bearing girdle to hold everything together, the girdle will set you back about $400 for a good one.

I believe that anything is possible. You just have to know what you're doing. For example, a stock 302 block won't last much past 500 hp, but if you really wanted to, you could weld up the webs connecting everything and then re-machine everything. Of course, this is completely impractical, but possible. Don't worry though, there's lots of aftermarket blocks out there like the new Boss 302 block and various Dart and Man-O-War blocks.
