Hello everyone. I am considering running Mobil 1 Synthetic in my 2006 GT that I just purchased. I have always used convetional oil in my vehicles. I have friends that use Synthetic and they claim to have increased their MPG and motor temperature being lower. I was hoping to get some feedback from members that use Sythetic oil. Thanks in advance.
Black 1988 saleen mustang #20, 306 DSS block with billet main girdle, billet windage tray, forged JE pistons,Holley system max II heads professionally ported (stage III)Holley System Max II upper and lower intake stage III ported and flowed,70 mm Accufab throttle body and spacer,77 Pro-M mass air w/ K&N filter,Baer racing twisted star rims, I mini tubbed it to fit the 315's on the rear tires415 HP and 425 TQ, check profile for full list of specs
I was also thinking about switching to synthetic until I was told it would cost $70 .... I laughed and said no thanks.
eventually ill buy 2 car ramps and do it myself for 28ish from walmart.

I use Castrol Syntec. $70 ewells2420? I don't know who told you that but I think they were trying to scare you. A gallon or 5 quart container of synthetic is usually about $20 at Walmart. Synthetic is supposed to resist breakdown and stay cleaner longer thus being better for your engine. I doubt you can notice any performance difference however.
My mother in laws boyfriend tried to scare me about synthetic - he's a moron anyway... but that's besides the point... He tried to tell me NASCAR techs won't run synthetic - braahahahahahahaha.......
I've read a lot of information about synthetic and it seems the #1 benefit is that the molecules are all controlled during the rendering process - 1 size and that size is "small" - in traditional oil - there is no controlling the size of the molecule - you have large, small, medium which makes for uneven wear?
I run Mobil 1 Synthetic just cause I can.

Hey all I just got done changing my oil over to Mobil 1. Researching articles on the internet plus the feedback from everyone here, I went ahead and bit the bullet. I will keep everyone posted if I notice any change in MPG.

i have had cars go 350,000 miles or more on dino oil and top tier filters (Wix, Purolator).
The secret is 3k oil changes.
However, my stang runs only Mobil 1 or Penzoil Platinum synthetic with either a Mobil 1 or Motorcraft filter.
Why?
The car gets driven harder than my other *family* cars.
FWIW my current champ is a 92 Caprice approaching 500,000 miles on original engine and tranny....Runs like a charm.
Again, dino oil, top tier filter and 3k changes.

while we are on the synthetic/oil subject what do you guys think about royal purple?...worth the extra dollar/s'?..and what do you guys think about that lucas oil treatment?..

Oil treatment NEVER.....
Never put anything in your car other than oil, water, antifreeze, gasoline, tranny fluid, diff fluid...etc....
An occasional shot of Fuel Injector cleaner (the good STP stuff in the black plastic bottle, not the junk), Techron or some Dry Gas if you happen to get some bad fuel is ok, but stay away from other stuff.
Royal Purple is a waste on money IMHO.
Some people love it and I won't argue with them but a good synthetic or even Dino is fine IF you change between 3-5k and preferably near 3k....
Like VFAST says a quality oil filter is just as important, maybe even more important....
This means NO FRAM unless it's an emergency and then the top of the line Fram isn't too bad....
Wix, Mobil 1, Motorcraft, Napa Gold, Purolator etc...
All quality filters as is K&N....
With the top tier filters it's really splitting hairs but when you go down to the junk you are really asking for problems...
Is your motor going to explode?
Probably not.
But why buy junk when for $4.00 more you can get quality?
