Default New to the forum. Need to decode a Rear Axle Tag

Hi everyone,

I have just registered to this forum and already have a question. Last year I bought a 1967 200ci AT coupe. The tag on the rear axle reads: 1st line - WCZ F1 9D3; 2nd line 3 00 8 931A

I imagine this is not the original rear axle installed at the factory, please help decoding it

The WCZ-F1 was used behind standard and automatic tranny 250s, 289s and 302s between 1967 and 1970.

9D3 is the date the axle was produced, 1969, April, 3rd week

3 00 is the ratio, the axle is a 3.00-1

8 it is an 8" center section (pumpkin)

931A is an internal plant part number for that axle

So, with this info, your rear axle came from a 1969 Mustang that had a 250 or 302 engine. Being the axle was made near the end of April the car was a late April or a May built car.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Thumbs up

Thanks Jay,

Pretty useful information. Having a 3.00 ratio would mean that I can save some gas now since I have an inline six in it. It'll take longer to get there but will require less effort (RPMs) to maintain speed, correct?

Thanks 1Mach1,

It's good to make contact with other Mustangs enthusiasts. I am thrilled just by working on my car, hopefully I'll have some pics soon after the paint job.
