Default 1966 Mustang clutch size

My 1966 Mustang 200ci ,3 speed ,built Mar 02/66 needs a new clutch. The 8.5 inch ,15/16 in. shaft with 10 splines is available and i would like to know if a 8.5 in. will work even if we find the car currently has a 9 in. in it. The clutch has never been changed and will slip in 3rd gear with the peddle at the end of its adjustment.

Thanks Palmy

If you pull it apart and find it's a 9" and it has lasted this long. What would be the advantage of using a 8.5"? The 9" is avail. and about $30. The 9" will have alot more surface area.
