Default 1968 Mustang Convertable information

Hi all. Im new here. I just finished a restoration job on a 1965 Oldsmobile, and Im getting ready to do one on a 1968 Mustang Convertable with the 302 4bbl with factory air. I have been told that there were only like 32 of these particular ones made, but I have a hard time believing that. does anyone have any knowledge on these and if that would be true. If it would be true where would I check to verify it. thanks chris

Kevin Marti will give a report on it. I don't know what it costs. Someone here does I'm sure. The "J" code 302 was an only year for those heads. According to some sources they had larger valves and smaller combustion chambers. My brother had a 68 "J" code and the motor really ran great. I remember him beating a 65 hi-po coupe with his fastback.

Marti Report is $17 for a basic report, $46 for a deluxe, & $220 for an Elite. You can go to Marti Report website and they will explain the differences in the reports. If you like to decode your car go to www.mustangdecoder.com/decoder.html , put in your VIN number and it will break it down for you.

an example for a 67 and it should be pretty close for a 68

VIN 7R01C100001

There were 3,754 convertibles in 68 with the J code 302.

There were 2,319 convertibles in 68 with factory air.

That's as far as I can break it down with the info you provided. I have no idea how many had factory air with the 302 though, it would be less than 2,319 since that includes all motor options.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

You won't find data on 302s in '67 data... they came mid model year for the '68 year as a replacement to the 289. I have a J-code with smog heads... she still pulls without ever being rebuilt. The 4v 302 is a nice little small block.
