Default '66 Vert advice needed!

Well, me and a friend are looking at this '66 vert that we spotted for sale at a car show. The restoration was done 7 years ago and then it was put away and never finished. The paint is a perfect 1 stage Springtime yellow. All of the floors, door skins, quarters, etc. were replaced. It looks to have been done very well. The convertible top is new and the tranny and engine (200 ci L6) have been rebuilt. It runs very well and drives well, but the suspension, front and rear were never done. The interior is almost 100%, it just need some new chrome pieces and finishing.

Now, it doesn't have any rust on the frame rails up front (it was stored in a large garage with his 3 other verts, he is just wanting to do other projects), but there is a patch of some sort on the front of the DS shock tower. I think it is to cover up temporarily an old hole made for grease fittings. I'm not worried about it. But I don't like the "holes" up behind each hood hinge near the cowl. It's like it wasn't completely sealed as it is not rusted out.

It really wouldn't take much to finish this car. He wants $10,500 for it, but I'm thinking of going lower since it has no options really, but it's a solid project.

Doors needs aligned a bit...

Interior just needs swept up, but most of it is brand new... The seats and everything look great. AS you can see, it needs little bits like lock knobs and some new chrome pieces.

Area that I'm worried about and some cowl shots... no rust here...

Sorry for some of the crappy pics. I only had a half hour to test drive it and look it over. I got the history from the owner. He's an honest guy and We think he'd be willing to deal a little bit. The shock tower is really the only thing that bothers me. Oh, the radiator and such is new. A lot of grime from storage in the engine bay and gunk in the back of the engine bay along the firewall. Any areas I should be really looking at on the firewall? Overall, it's solid.

How about the cowl vent? Were they fixed which is a time consuming/expensive repair. Rain comes thru the vent in center of cowl and if rusted out where you can't see it then runs in on your feet. Pass side can be seen a little bit by removing the glove box liner.

I didn't get to pour water down the cowl to completely check it. I didn't have time, but rest assured, I wouldn't buy a mustang without thoroughly checking it. It looks very solid from what I saw, but when I go back, I'm going to pull the liner of the glovebox and check it and pour lots of water down it to check for drainage.

Default Just guessing, but.........

Just guessing, but a previous owner (PO) who does these types of repairs is bad news.
They probably took it to Sears for repairs -
The front end will need to be rebuilt - the bushings were shot and probably squeaking, hence the holes cut in the shock towers to band-aid the squeak - never mind actually fixing the problem by replacing UCA bushings or other components.

I would also be willing to bet that the cowl leaked - hence the cut out sections (or possibly rust) on the corners of the cowl.
It is really hard to say about these, but I would be skeptical, you really need to check yourself.

My $.02

I don't think the current owner did it. It has been there quite a long time. The cowl looked solid, as did the firewall.... so who knows.
