Default 66 alternator not charging battery

I recently put in an AC unit in my 66. I up graded to a new 65 amp Alternator. I know it is wired correctly. If I remove the positive terminal from the battery the engine stops. Any sugistions. Thanks

That will FORCE the alternator into maximum output usually frying the diode bridge. Absolutely the WRONG way to check the charging system.

If you are sure the wiring is on all the correct terminals...

Take the alternator to a parts store and have it bench tested. You may have hurt it.

There is a fuseable link in the charge wire going from the batt terminal on the alternator to the solenoid. It's usually very near the solenoid connection. Look for a slight bulge in the wire. Check continuity in that wire.

Hello. If you click on this link there will be diagrams and a brief run-down on your charging system. It sort of sounds like you might have a ground problem, but it could be something else. Hope that helps. The Care and Feeding of Ponies: Search results for charging system

Oops, is this a given? I've got the same issue and I did this a couple of times. Now you have me worried.
