Default What is the difference between 65, 66, 67, 68, 69 Mustangs?

I am new to the mustang community and still learning. I like the classic mustang but really don't know much about them other than i like the body style. Can someone explain to me the difference between 65, 66, 68, and 69 mustangs? Also, which year are most popular to have and why? Do you recommend V6 or V8? Thank you much in advance for the advice.

andrew is right, the model years go basically 64.5, 65/66, 67/68, and 69/70. All models are popular, it depends on personal preference as to favorite, the earlier model years are smaller, lighter, but have smaller engines and cannot fit as large aftermarket engines. The 69/70 are biggest and have the biggest engines, also, early-model 'Stangs came with I6's (straight-sixes) not v-6's

67-73 both big blocks fit fine 64-66 a 351w and 351c are a tight fit.I love the 64-68 coupes there light weight and a mustang.I do have a soft spot for the 71-73 sports roof too tho. Here's some books to read Mustangs Plus*::*Books, Manuals, & Videos*::*Facts Books and Mustangs Plus*::*Books, Manuals, & Videos*::*Guidebooks & Handbooks and the rest they carry Mustangs Plus*::*Books, Manuals, & Videos*::*Guidebooks & Handbooks

I'm pretty sure the difference between the 64 1/2 and 65 is reverse lights... the 67 and I think the 68's tail lights curve in, whereas the 64-66 are flat.

Actually reverse/ back-up lights were a option for 64-65 (at least) as my 65 didn't come with them. Also there is no provision for them in the wiring harness.

another difference with the 64.5 & 65/66 is that the 64.5 had a generator not an alternator
