Default 1968 Mustang Fuel in Oil

I have rebuilt a 4150 carb, I have a 289 and it is showing 2 quarts of fuel on the stick. I have been experiencing trouble starting all the while and have changed the oil 4 times from this. Pumps and fuel regulator are new from kit and fuel pump has been changed out 3 times. I also switched from the electric pump the original owner was using when it was down for the count to the mechanical. He did a top end and I did a little top end work myself. It sat with the intake manifold off it fo a while and accumulated a small bit of rust. I took a scrungy and wiped it loose the best I could and then used a very fine sand paper to remove the rest. Have I distroyed everything I have been working on or are my rings bad.

A cylinder leakage test is what I would recommend, not a compression test.

Just my 2 cents...

Can you give us some more information, engine runs, loud knocking noises, taken the valve covers off and turned the engine over by hand to check the valve operations ?

Sounds like a blown power valve in the carb. The ruptured diaphragm is allowing the fuel bowl to drain down into the oil pan, which would cause the hard starting, also. The fuel bowl has to refill before the car will be able to start. This is pretty common on Holleys, especially when the car doesn't get driven a lot. It could be something else, but that would be the first thing that I would check. Also, if the float level is set too high, it will cause the fuel to siphon into the oil pan.

i would have to agree w/Djinn. i believe its in the carb too. i had similar issues back in the day and it was a sticky float. flooded every time and gass in the oil. if not taken care of you will wash out the cilinder walls and then you have bigger problems. rebuild that carb or grab an edelbrock and throw it on and check it out to see if the problem gets fixed. cahnge out the oil swap carb and tune it up and run it to clean it out. pull the plugs and check them out too before and after the carb swap and test run. if it rung great and the problem is fixed than you know that the holley is the culprit! my 10 cents...lol!
