Default Any recommendation on where to start?

I'm new to the automotive world, other than a clean driving record I don't really have much to show(not even a car right now). However, I've been a classic Mustang fan for a long time, especially after the new retro 2005 redesigned model came out. My first car(1994) was an '82 Camaro while most of my friends drove imports with way too many "stickers" on it.

I was wondering if anyone can point me to any directions on where I can educate myself in the classic Mustang world(something like a Mustang 101), my ultimate goal is to restore a classic 60's Mustang in my future garage in my future house that I don't own yet.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Bill

Try one of the big book stores and go to the automotive section, they'll be lots of books on classic mustangs. I picked a large coffee table book titled "Mustang Forty Years" by Randy Luffingwell, lots of info. to read.

I like books that have some history background, racing facts and technical stuff (wts., engines offered, HP/TQ ratings, #produced, special models, etc.). This info. always comes in handy later, especially when you start looking at cars and will be able to spot a fake GT that someone has mocked up since you'll know what equipment should be on it and how to read the VIN, body and engine codes.
Good luck,
Jon

Look at every body change they made 64-66 67/68 69/70 and 71-73 the coupe is the cheapest all of them a fastback/sports roof and convertibles are high dollar cars.I love the 67-70 coupe and 71-73 sports roofs but each there own.

I would also recommend looking at prices to restore what you like. 60's Fastbacks can cost quite a bit even when rotted out. Look online and various magazines for all the info.
But buy the house first...That way you know how much space you will have to do your rebuild.

thanks for the replies, folks, I've zeroed in on the 67-69 models. I'm sure the fastback is the high priced items(especially after that movie), sure I'd love to have one of those, but at the point I'll be thrilled to get to work on any classic 60's model....whenever it'll be.

One more hint, if I may-------Why go to a bookstore?? Go to your local library, most have a good selection of general information about many vintage cars, Mustangs included, in their reference section. I see you're in NYC, believe me, try it, youll be surprised at the information available there! It's free, the librarians will give you all the help you need to find the information you need and you can print anything from their books right there.
Hope that helps,
Jay67fast

thanks for the advice, I have already went through a few books from the local library. I decided to buy one of that I liked and found a great deal on ebay, still waiting for it arrive. Paid less than $7.00(include shipping) rather than $55+tax at the local Borders

Bill,

I got interested in Mustangs at the age of 14 because my cousin owned a 390 '68 fastback GT as his first car. I was hooked!!!

I would suggest a magazine subscription to Mustang Monthly in your quest for knowledge. They usually have tech articles and plenty of feature cars to help you along the way. Here is the link to the website. Featured Mustangs - Classic Mustangs To The 2007 Mustang - Mustang Monthly

I also suggest locating any local Mustang clubs in your area and find a club member that can help educate you about these classics. Be sure to go and visit any car shows featuring Mustangs as well.

Best of luck!
