Default 1972 351 cleavland oil temp?

Hello fellow mustang addicts, i was wondering if anyone had an idea what the running oil temperature should be on a my engine, i have a 3 way gauge it gives coolant temperature, transmission temperature and oil temperature, the oil temperature is running at 250 on a highway run which seems high to me . any words of wisdom.

In my experience, running 200 - 220 degrees is the optimal oil temp range. What kind of oil are you currently running? Stock oil pan & pump? When dealing with oil temp, you should look over your coolant system as well, if not first. An inadequate cooling system will increase your oil temp and can usually be remedied easier than modifying your oiling system
