Do you remember the name or partial name of the person you sold it to? That would be the easiest way to start tracking it down. I don't know about the Canadian motor vehicle departments but here in the States it's almost impossible to get specific info now due to privacy laws. Some states no longer issue titles for older cars too so that becomes futile.
I'm wondering about the car being a true GT as if you have the VIN correct then the car was a 6 cyl (250) originally.
Go over to the Vintage Mustang Forum (VMF) too and post this over there. The more you get it out the better your chances are of finding it.
