Default 1965 VIN beginning with 6?

Are there 1965 Mustangs that begin with a 6 in the VIN? I keep seeing 1965 Mustangs for sale, and find out the VIN starts with a 6. I thought that was for 1966's. Need some help.
Thanks alot.

Hello. If the vin starts with a 6, that's a 66 model car. The vin of all 65 Mustangs begin with a 5. The reason that you see that is probably either, people don't know what they are talking about, the d/s door of a 65 has been replaced with the door of a 66 and it still has the 66 door tag on it, or, the vin on the title that the person has is for a different car. Hope that helps.

While those are very valid reasons I'd go with #1 for the most part

I've had my share of people tell me they like MY 65 or that my car is in fact a 65, or even worse.......a 64! When most people think of a Mustang they think 65 as it was the most popular year. So whenever they see a 68 like mine, a 67, 66 or even a 69 and 70 they think they're ALL 65s.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

veronica's right...if the door tag starts with a 6, then one of the previous owners have replaced the door with one from a 1966 mustang and left the door tag on.

I agree. What about the inner fender stamped VIN? I would that would be more reliable.
