Default 1967 convertible passenger compartment / interior gets very warm

Folks, I have a 1967 convertible with a 302, cam etc. and ceramic coated headers and 5speed tremec. After driving it a bit the interior gets quite warm. I assume from the engine compartment and exhaust below. Any ideas on how to better insulate the passenger compartment. I have heard of dynamat. Was wondering if there are other equivalent or better, less expensive options. Thanks

dynamat is a good product.....I used a different one on my SS Malibu. I'll see if I can find the receipt with the name on it.

Yeah any sound deading with alum backing should be fine.I'd go as far to cover the floor firewall maybe inside the doors too.Something else how good is the under coating on your car?

Dynamat, lizard skin and others are good products from what I've read, but $$$. I'll be doing mine on the cheap with foil backed adhesive insulation from HD or Lowes. It's made for a/c system insulation and is ~$15 for a 1'X15'? roll, Frost King is one of the co's that make it.

Have you checked to see if your heater control valve (if equipped) is sticking open? If hot coolant from the engine is circulating through your heater core the interior gets warm. Try feeling at your floor vents or under the dash behind the glove box to see if you're getting residual heat from the heater core.

Thanks - undercoating is not bad. When I redo the carpet and insulation. I will add a coat to the interior as well. I will check the heater core and Home Depot for insulation options.

Also, I am embarassed to say not sure how the controls are best set on the Heater. I have all 3 conrol levers set at the top - is that correct? Thanks again for the assistance.

Yes, All three controls at the top equates to no heat on and no defroster on. However, there is a possibility that the cable is either loose or off one or more of the heater controls at the controls themselves or at the heater door. Slide under and check that the controls work properly.
If all else fails, simply install an aftermarket A/C unit! LOL.
Mustangs are notorious for being hot inside. A/C solves that problem best!!!

I was actually looking into an aftermarket AC unit. I see Laurel Mountain has one for about $1k. Any other places I should look?

Jon, I checked under the glove box and there is a plastic box, that I assume is where the heater core is located. It was very hot to the touch after driving a bit. How do I correct this?

You would need to install a heater control valve in the heater hose line, usually on the engine side where you see the two hoses going into the firewall. I'll see if I can find some pics. They're usually cable activated or vacuum operated. I hooked one up on a previous car and just flipped the lever by hand in the summer/winter.

Default I would read this first....

check out this website....
Sound Deadener Showdown

lots of good info - good comparisons, then you can decide.
If you want to get rid of the heat, you can try the Reflectix (foil bubble-wrap) and add the regular carpet padding and floor underlayment.
Dynamat is good stuff, but way overpriced (IMO) - heavy stuff, too.

BTW - did you mention if you even have the regular underlayment on there now - just carpet with no underlayment is hot. You may want to use the Reflectix just on the firewall or the hump or wherever the heat is in conjunction with some other .
