Exclamation 1966 Mustang Grille Trim Install. Please Help!

I'm trying to install a new grille on my 1966 Mustang Fstbck. I have the lower L and R mounting panels in place. But, I'm having trouble securing it into place using the pieces from the center bracket support mounting set.

I have the L and R panels clips snug and screwed are pretty tight on the L and R side. However, it's not pushing the centers of the two panel close enough for the center bracket to lock into place.

Seems to be a odd way to lock it all together. There are no thread on the bottom of the center bracket and it's too short for the screw/washer to lock on to it. The top of the screw/washer looks like its meant for a socket wrench but it's not locking onto the center piece of the center bracket.

Attached are pix... please help. I know it's going to be something really silly that is preventing me from securing all this. Please excuse my lack of proper terminology and over all inexperience.

Firstly, both of the longer trim pieces should have clips in them that snap down into the metal grille surround.

Also, your center trim should be threaded. Looks like the mounting stud has snapped off from the picture. That's why there's nothing use that mounting nut on.

Hope this helps--PM me if you need more specifics.
