Default Help me to find engine model in 1965 VIN

I am looking to buy a 1965 Mustang convertible with the following VIN and my research (decoder, etc) is not showing that this reflects the engine.

5F080377925

I read in

How to Decode a Classic Mustang's VIN & Data Plate

that "If you’re dealing with an engine, unless it’s an original, you won’t necessarily find the number. Even if it is original, you won’t find the number on pre-1968 Mustangs (1964 1/2- 67 K Codes are the exception)."

Help. is this true as other information indicates engine should be identifiable. Thanks

Could the character after the 8 be the letter D. If so you have a 289 4v. My 65 came with that engine so I'll check my vin later this morning and let you know.

I just did some research and the 5th digit in your VIN should be a "C", not a "0". The "D" would have been possible but not with your car being later 65 production. With your VIN your car would have been built around Dec 21, 1965.......too late for a D code 289 4v. It should be the 289 2v. Your car is a late 65, not an early one.

The only numeral digits for motors in 65 were 2,3 and 4.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Double check the vin on the door with the inter fender one on the driver side.
