Default Re-Body a Mustang?

Is there a legal way to re-body a car?

I saw a 67 GTA on ebay that was an absolute basketcase and will need way too much metal to restore it being actually a car again and was wondering if a re-body could be done legally?

I have read about cars being re-bodied, but don't know if it is legal or not.

Here's a couple of photos of a 69 GT350 Convertible that a Shelby/Mustang Restoration shop in MA said is to be restored.

How can this mess be restored and not be re-bodied?

i thought cars like that were the whole reason behind dynocorne's business plan? i have read that was the idea anyway. too bad they only make a 67 fastback.

too bad cars are not like vintage aircraft. all you need is the origional data plate... i think.

This is the GTA on ebay that looks like a candidate for a re-body:

eBay Motors: Ford : Mustang (item 260287895986 end time Sep-22-08 19:00:00 PDT)

What are you talking about. That is the most ridicules statement I have heard in a while.

Is re-bodying being done, yes. Is it legal, no. Do people get away with it, yes, but before selling, you better make the new owner aware or else face a major lawsuit.

I am not sure why you would even mess with that car. Just buy a decent one and clone it.

If the numbers show it's a "real GTA".....$$$....

I have no plans to buy this car. It just looks as though it needs way too much to restore and will probably be re-bodied and some poor sap down the road will pay big bucks for it.

Wow...Vintage Burgundy over black. Love that color combo, and I already have a '66 coupe and '66 GT fastback in those colors. Wish this convertible was a little nicer. As others have already said, sure that car could be fixed, but just imagine what you'd have in it. The non-original motor really seals the deal for me that the car's too far gone.

Too bad somebody didn't just store it out of the weather.

If someone is capable of bringing this sad pony back to life, then the engine not being original is not as big deal as the restoration. They would just have to locate a June/July '67 date code 289. or build one from parts.

I like the Vintage Burghandy too. In 1992, I saw a beautiful Vintage Burghandy / black, S Code, '67 GT Convertible at a show and knew I had to have one. Within a year, I bought my candyapple red '67. I didn't know it at the time, but it's original color happens to be X Code.

that is very restoreable the way it is. It will just take more time $$ & effort then other restorations.

strip the interior and have the body blasted to see what you are working with and go from there. you can pretty much piece meal it together and make a nice looking ride.

My car is a GTA, is it worth more money than a standard fastback, yes, because it is a true GT. Is it worth $$$$$ more, no.

If the car was a GT with a 4-speed, it would be worth more money than a GTA.

You have to remember, in 67, the GT Equipment Group could be ordered on any V8.

When I said big bucks, I meant top price as compared what a standard V8 car would get.

What do you think the difference in value (assuming a comparable level of restoration on both cars) between a real GT Convertible and a V8 Convertible with all the same options installed. Both of the cars are the same color inside and out.
