Default 66 Pony Inteior Door Handles

I can't seem to get my door handles to sit properly on the new Pony handle mechanisms I just purchased. The are sitting about 1/8" to 1/4" off of the metal trim plate, which sits in the molded cup of the door panel. Right now these plates rattle on both sides, and dangle from the shaft on the other because the handle sits so far off of the plate. Any ideas?

I assume these are all reproduction Chinese pieces?

If I am wrong I apologize. But most likely they are re-pop parts, in which that is how they (don't) fit. Been through it. Ended up restoring my orginal stuff.

The repop stuff I bought fit as you said, took it right back, as NPD is on my way to work. I bet the Escheon (sp?), that little chrome oval piece behind the door handle doesn't fit so well either. Or is that missing? That will give you a 1/4" gap also.

Best of luck to you in your endevor.

Does the Pony door panel incorporate a spring behind it to hold tension out against the handles or is this only in the standard door panels? I've never owned one with Pony interior.

No, no spring. Sounds like you got a bad re-pop. I too used my originals and just replaced the wood grain trim. I think a couple of places sell two versions of the pony handle - a cheap one and a concours one. Might check out NPD

Another vote for cheap knock-off reproductions. I have a pony interior car, and the only thing I can think of would have to be a poorly-tooled part. Welcome to the lovely land of reproduction junk.
