Okay car won't start, seems I've got a switch, neutral safety switch or tha DANG Viper!!!
Viper works properly, I was thinking neutral safety due to it restarting ONCE! when I toyed with the shifter....but no other reference than that one time. The mess the guy created to install the viper makes me ...wanna

okay.....clue 1
Car will start with switch on and cross over at the solenoid. I am sure we are at the switch and maybe the Viper wiring. where would YOU start? I'm thinking neutral safety switch is not it.

I recall when it wouldn't start at a show it responded to jump off. okay those are the clues so far.

Forgot to mention, Solenoid was replaced back about 3-6 months ago..if it is failing would it still react to the cross over?

Are you sure that the safety switch is aligned properly? I have to fix mine, because my car can start in any gear even though its an automatic. Here is a link to another topic about removing and adjusting the neutal safety switch. Just remember to have the car up on jackstands, because I believe you have to have the car in neutral. Also, check if your backup lights work, if they don't, then your neutral safety switch is dead. If it is out of adjustment you can either start your car in any gear, or it won't start at all.

I wouldn't think a failed solenoid would work with the crossover. In my experience, they've either been totally dead, or else they don't cut off (and the starter keeps cranking and cranking after you release the key).

If the problem isn't in the solenoid or the neutral safety switch, I'd think that it's probably in that alarm system.

hey guys thanks, the car will not start in other gears, but I did not check the backup lights. I'll do that first. LOL and definitely the safety check first.( I watched my 65 SS go down the street without me one day....).
Thanks for the link 66!

Right now I'm thinking that dang alarm system is NOT my friend.

Don't know what I was thinking last night--yes, a failed solenoid will still crank when you do the crossover trick, because you're simply bypassing the internal switch and creating a direct circuit.

You could jump the wiring to the neutral safety switch right where it comes out of the firewall. There is the plug that the switch plugs into there. Unplug and put a jumper between the two wires. If the problem goes away, then you know its a bad safety switch.

Remember, when you do this, the car will start in any gear position.

Be careful with 'Ol Diamond Blue!
