Default 65 VIN/Title Search

I am new to this site and am looking at a 65 coupe, white/blue. The vin sequence is correct according to the decoding sites. My concern is it has an Ohio title with a stamp on the front indicating Historical Vehicle, License Issued 1998.

The lower left of the front page has a bar code and the # 7.033342553. How can I make sure (as possible) that this is a good title and is not a salvage/rebuilt title and is really issued in Ohio, other than contact the Ohio DMV ????

I appreciate any help.

The title will say salvage on it they don't hide it.But being a car its age some people do junk good cars they no longer want so salvage can mean just that.My brother bought a car out of a junkyard it got junked over a blown engine people do stupid things sometimes. If you have the vin you might be able to have your dmv check the title.

Officially designated Salvage Vehicles get a new VIN stamp actually on the car so if that cars VIN is a normal 65 VIN, then it is probably OK.

If you are worried that it is a forged title, the only way to confirm is to get in touch with the Ohio DMV.

I wouldn't worry about the "Historical Vehicle" stuff on the title. A lot of states register old cars as Historical or Antique Vehicles. It allows owners to use year of manufacture license plates and get reduced insurance rates.

A lot of states will also post "Historical Vehicle" on the title so that the vehicle is officially recorded as Historical and filed under special status. That way, when Hollywood comes knocking at the door to there state wanting to film a classic movie, the state can readily locate vehicles that may be available for use in there movie.

I have owned two cars that had Salvage titles, and both of them still had the Ford issued vin's on the car, never changed by PA or FL.

This may vary by state, but it is not correct to say as a blanket statement.

Yeah i have never seen a Salvage titled car have the vin changed by the dmv.Unless the car is missing its vin they might give you a new one or like a kit car they have to give it a vin.

I've seen quite a few cars that have their VIN's changed that were advertised for sale as Salvage Titled cars. They had extra numbers added to the Ford VIN.
