Default Should I go with pony or standard interior?

I have a fairly original 65 289 coupe, could use paint and interior(Burgundy with Ivy Gold int.).The car is an unmolested surviver, runs and drives great.I want to keep the original look but am undecided on the interior.I don't want to go with the Pony and down the road wish I hadn't.

I think it is a individual choice that suits you. The good thing about it is its not too expensive to change later on. I have personally always loved the pony interior but I have the original in my 65. When it needs a new one I'll get the pony. GOOD LUCK

Default It depends on what you want

It all depends on what you want, and how much you are willing to spend.

first of all - was the original exterior of your car burgundy? I have not seen an Ivy Gold interior with that color paint.

Keep in mind if you go to a Pony interior, you will have to change out your seat foam, and there is some stuff to change out on the door handles with the deluxe door panels.

The door panels will cost you an extra $100 (over standard panels)
seat covers will be about an extra ~$50
deluxe door handles - $40 + adapters $30
door panel molding kit ~$150
Plus some other odds and ends hardware.

Bottom line - it is nice, but will cost you a little.

I also see there is Deluxe interior but I guess if I change it I should go with the Pony. I am leaning toward the standard but I guess I just need a little nudge.Naturally I like the Pony much better but thinking I should keep it like it came.

The deluxe interior and the pony interior are the same thing. Ford never used the term "pony interior". They said deluxe but us Mustang lovers referred to it as the pony interior due to the galloping horses on the seat backs. A good pony interior conversion kit will cost you about $1775 (out of one of my catalogs) But that includes everything, seat covers, door panel conversion kit, woodgrain dash items, the deluxe steering wheel and mounting kit, etc.

Thanks for the great info. When I decoded it it said,Vintage Burgundy with Ivy Gold Vinyl with Gold trim Crinkle.I don't mind paying the extra $ for Pony but I thought since it was an unusual color combo I should put it back like it came.I realize it's not a 69 Boss or Shelby which IMO one would be crazy to change an original unmolested car but then again the car looks original as is.
