Default how to identify engine info.

Hi all, I have a v8 in my mustang that is not original. i need to know where to go to get the information that is encoded in the serial number. I found the serial number above the starter so with the starter in it is not able to be seen. So, what do i have to do to identify it?

thanks,
Gerry

i would look on the back of the heads and front, also take the valve covers off to see if you see casting numbers, then look on the driver side of the block near the back of the oil pan, usually where the bellhousing attaches, then get the all the numbers you can, and google the crap out of it, this should narrow it down for drastically
