Ok, I am getting ready to replace my speedometer cable, but I am getting confused. Each parts supplier I go to has like 3 different cables for my car. For example, Mustangs unlimited has a speedometer cable for a 1966 3 speed or automatic, and they have a cable for a 1966 6 cylinder car. Which one would I use, because I have both a 6 cylinder, and an automatic? Also, what would be the best company to get my new cable from? I usually use Mustangs Unlimited, but I wanted to know if there was anyone else out there that might be cheaper, closer to home, etc. Thanks guys.
Ok, my new cable is here, and I am getting ready to replace it. Now I have to ask, when I disconnect the speedometer cable, will fluid come pouring out of the transmission or not? Thanks.
When I replaced the speedo cable on my 65 200 auto, only a few drops of transmission fluid escaped. I doubt that it will be a problem for you either.

Cool, thanks. Today seeing as how the weather is crap here in Pittsburgh, and my car is in the garage, I figured I would take today to put on all the new bits I bought--speedometer cable, accelerator pedal pad, accelerator pedal pad spring, and weatherstripping that goes above the windows along the roofline. Do those just sort of clip in like on my 1998 where I just press the weatherstrip into the channel? It is the roofrail weatherstrip (weatherstrip that the windows seal with when they are closed).
Hello. If you are talking about the black weatherstripping that is indicated by the red arrows in the picture, you'll also need some of that 3M weatherstrip adhesive. It comes in a tube like toothpaste and is available at any major auto parts chain store. Also, it comes in black and a really disgusting looking yellow. Get the black. There is a a lip that the weatherstripping hooks into, but you will still need the glue. Hope that helps.
Thanks Veronica. Is that your car that you posted a picture of? It's interior is almost identical to mine except for body style, colour, year, transmission, and mine has the woodgrain, white gauge faces, and a Grant walnut steering wheel. Mine is a 66 coupe, with the dark red interior, and an automatic.
Hi again. That car used to be mine, but I sold it. It's a K code. It was( and probably still is ) a lot of fun, but I got rid of it after I got the car I have now. I didn't have room for it in the garage, and I sure wasn't going to just leave it in the driveway for the cats and squirrels to walk on. It was too pretty for that. I had another K code fastback that I sold last spring that I was ok with leaving in the driveway because the paint wasn't really great on it anyway. I would still have it, but a gentleman in California was bothering me about selling it and finally offered me waaaay too much money for it. The only car I have now is a 64 1/2 convertible, 260 2bbl, auto, A/C, power top that's Skylight Blue with interior 82 (medium blue). There's a couple of pictures of it in the Members Rides gallery. It isn't fast, but it's pretty.

Hi again. That car has a black top/ black interior. Mine is white top/ blue interior. That one has the 289 style breather, mine has the 260 Falcon type.
