Default 1966 mustang coupe project, maybe?

first of all i would like to introduce myself, im Dallas, 20 years old, and live in Prince George BC, Canada. I just joined here looking for some advice and guidence. I always wanted a mid 60's mustang, the other day i stumbled upon a '66 mustang coupe with a 289, (transmission unknown), as it sits now everything is origional, except i believe the head liner. I am gonna go look at it on sunday or mid next week and see just what kind of condition it is in. im not to familiar with mustangs, and this will be my first project. after searching around the net i've found some problem areas to look for:

-cowl rust
-frame rust
-quater panels
-floor
-trunk / fenders

i am wondering if there are any other places i should look at in depth, also i am planning on taking alot of pics of it and posting them, i want an opinion on wether or not i my be getting in over my head.

already this forum has helped alot,

thanks for any input and advice

Dallas

Looks like you have done some homework on the usual rust spots, also open the boot and peek in up under the parcel shelf and check if it looks dry, another spot is checking the wheel tubs inside the boot for signs of water stains coming from possible leaking rear screen, (meaning when the screen is removed, it might have some rust in the sealing area of the body).

Good Luck & happy building

Welcome aboard.
Nice to see the younger ones searching out the original mustangs.
Go into this with your eyes wide open. The more you find out about the car the better you'll be in the long run. You won't find all the flaws with 1 or 2 visits, many are hidden and only come to light once you start to disassemble a car.
Don't want to scare you off but the more you find wrong with the car the lower the price you'll be able to negotiate but the more work you'll have to do and the more money you'll have to spend to restore it. Most times the fewer parts that need fixing/replacing the better the end result.
Good luck with it and keep us posted on your findings.
Ted

Take a magnet with you even one off the fridge will work stick it on random spots on the body if it don't stick there fiberglass or thick body filler which both can hide rust holes.Just keep your eyes open sometimes it can take a while to find a good one good luck post pictures when ever you get one.

Also check around the front and rear glass under the trim. Check on the bottom of the doors too!
