Default A and K code rally pacs.....

i understand the difference between A(225 hrs pwr) and K(271 hrs pwr solid lifter) code motor ,but since they are both high performance motors why is the A code rally pac only 6 grand while the K is 8 grand?is it not possible for the A code to rev up to 8 without blowing?

Hello. If you run the 'A' code motor up to 8K on a regular basis, yes, it will blow up, as would most motors of that era. That's what all of the differences in a K code and an A code were designed to prevent. Beefier main bearing caps, different head design, etc... All intended to keep the motor from flying apart.

veronica you are the greatest. is there anyway besides changing to solid lifters to beef an A code up to K code specs so it can handle the heavy revving?

Hi again. You are too kind. If you put a pair of K code heads on the motor, drilled and tapped the block for the larger main cap bolts, used a set of K code main bearing caps, or ( much cheaper ) a set of the mexican caps, got the beefier connecting rods, bigger balancer, etc... You would have a K code motor, it just wouldn't be an original K code motor. The K codes and A codes used the same block, intake manifold, and crank shaft. The cranks for the K codes were tested for hardness, and if the passed, they went in a K code, if not, they went to an A code, or C code or something. A lot of that K code stuff isn't cheap, but, yes, you can bring an A code motor up to K code specs.
