Default New member with a vin question.

Hi guys, I originally joined this forum when I was going to buy a 68 coupe, but the deal fell thru. I am working on buying a 1970 Mach 1, that was a old race car (it has been backhalfed) Can someone help me with the vin? OT15M153348 is what is on the title, dash & fender tag. The part that is confusing me is the 15, should that be 05? I called a few people & one responce was, "maybe it is a factory screw up"
Eitheer way I am interested in the project, as the body is rust free, with potentual. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Guy.

Hello. 05 would be a Mach I in the 70 model year. I don't know if that helps you or not, though.

The only tag you didn't mention is the Door Data Plate. What does the Door Data Plate say for the Warranty Number? Codes?

If this car is a real Mach 1, it should read 0T05M. The body style code choices for 1970 are:

01.....Coupe
02.....Sportsroof
03.....Convertible
04.....Grande
05.....Mach 1

15 isn't a choice for 1970.

When you say backhalfed, do you mean the rear end has been hit?

Is the title a salvage title?

Backhalfed means they tubed the car changed the rear half of the frame and huge slicks also known as pro street.

If the numbers all match between the tags it sounds like a factory mis-stamp, which there are cases that it did happen.

Do the tags look original with no possibility they were "modified"? Sometimes a car that was stolen would have a digit or two changed to hide the car.

You mention the buck tag but what about the inner fender stampings if the inner fenders haven't been changed? I'm interested too in what the door tag says, if it's there and is original to the car.

I looked up your VIN in the Mustang Production Guide and found 0T02G153346, two unts before your car. The car you're looking at would have been built the last week of January, sometime around the 24th.

With the repro parts available today it is possible to rebuild the rear portion back to factory if you wish.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Is there a VIN stamp on the inner fender?

Is there a Door Data Plate?

Is there a Body Buck Tag screwed on to drivers side, inner fender?

Is there a Dash VIN Tag?

If yes to all these, then is the VIN the same, on all of them?

Do they all match the VIN on the title?

I could see how an typing error on the title can happen, because we all know how efficient and competent government agencies can be.

1. The Doors are gone
2. The Buck Tag is on the fender & matches the title
3. The Dash VIN Tag matches the title as well
4. I will look for the inner VIN stamp next time I am at the guys house, will this be on both sides?

I am just doing my research before purchasing this car is all.

Any help is appreciated,
Guy.
