Default Need help finding the original color

I have a 65 coupe that has been painted and I am trying to find what the original color was. I don't have the door tag since the last owner replaced the door but didn't save the tag. the Vin is 5T07C136753. I would also like to know if there is a way to find the trim code.

Thanks,

Tony

Does it say on the title? Doesn't the title usually say what the original colour was? Try contacting the previous owner. Maybe they still have the door tag, the car's build sheet, or they remember what the original colour was.

5T07C136753 All the VIN tells is:

5.............1965
T.............Metuchen, NJ Assembly Plant
07............Coupe
C..............289-2V
136753.....Unit Number at Assembly Plant

Without the door tag, you have to be bit of a detective. Pull out the rear seat and look around there. Hopefully the repaint did not include the interior. Is inside trunk area the same color as the exterior on your car now? If not, that may be the original color there.

Since your car was built in Metuchen, you may have a Body Buck Tag attached to the drivers side inner fender (under the hood) near the hood hinge. If it’s there, post the codes that you find. This will have the for paint / interior codes and some options.

Thanks for the help. I checked to see if there was a body buck tag but there was not one but while I was trying to repair the cowl I found a very fragile bunch of shredded pile of paper that looks like it build specs. So like CSI I tried to piece it back together and found the build date (14B), Trim (26), DSO (15), Axle (1), Trans (6). I didn't have enough pieces to determine the color, but i did find a J and a W. I removed all of the interior since I have to repair the front floor boards and was hoping to find something that would show the original color but found nothing that I could say was the original color. based on the code book J is Ragoon Red and W is not a color code so I am going with J Ragoon Red.

thanks,

Tony

Nice! You found the "Build Sheet".

Are you planning on returning it to original specs?

I say you should tape the pieces of the build sheet together and have it lamanated.
