Exclamation 1966 manual 200 mustang. lots of issues! need input

1966 manual 200 mustang

I know it's a clutch issue

the mechanic told me, it was coming apart which was makeing a rattling sound when I dont press the clutch pedal in.

and it stutters more than it should when taking off, I know how to drive so no thats not it lol

need a new clutch I guess, any thoughts? he quoted me 650 to do it. is this a job a few guys can tackle in a day?

I know the parts are about 300

and there is a rattle / cyclical sound from the gear shift I think when accelerating harder than normal, it has a hurst shifter that might be a factor

any thoughts would be great!

If you've never done it before and it's not your main ride , get a manual, read it and do it yourself. It's not that hard if you have an extra set of hands. It's a great learning experience too. Resurface your flywheel and also check the rear main seal for leaks as long as the tranny is out.

600 isn't terrible, I had to have my done and I paid around 8 so you might be getting a deal...is this guy a mustang specialist or just a mechanic? I work both at a body shop and I have another job at a repair shop, if you were to do it yourself and knew what you were doing, it would normally take me around 3 hours to disconnect the trans, tke it out, put the new clutch in, and put it back in. so yes its possible, but you need to know what you're doing...too many things can go wrong

I got my first Mustang in 1984. After paying an outrageous bill for a trans swap, I decided that if they could do it, why couldn't I! I bought the manual and just followed the directions. I learned to fix it while I drove it which really was difficult. I didn't have the luxury of internet forums like today. They are awsome for help. I restored the car I have now by myself except for body and paint just by asking questions and reading. Besides, half the fun of a classic car is being able to work on it yourself. Saves alot of money for the restoration and upgrades! Obviously if you just aren't sure, don't do it. But at least try to do as much as you can yourself. You will apperciate it more when your done! Best of luck.
