Default fixing a stuck 65 parking brake..

any idea on how to this myself or does a mechanic have to do it because its too technical? im pretty decent with tool and have decent mechanical abilities.the brake pulls out and pushes in but it doesnt work .so perhaps its the cable and wire. any help? veronica ,veronica where are you?

maybe try having someone pull the handle while you are under the car so you can see exactally where it hangs up be it the cable in the tube or back at the rear drums that the shoes are hanging up on the riser pads on the backing plates sometimes neeed ground a little to smooth them out or just lubed

Hello. Assuming that everything is there, all that you need to do is get under the car and tighten up the nut on the equalizer rod some. Here's a picture of what you should see under there. There are two cables, one from each rear wheel, that are hooked onto a bracket. In the middle of the bracket is a threaded rod that is hooked onto the lever on the other end. The lever has the cable which is hooked to the parking brake handle attached to the end of it. You want to snug up that nut until it's causing the brakes to drag a little bit, then back it off a hair, so that the wheels turn freely, but when you pull the handle the brakes engage.
