Default 1968 Lime Gold mustang, vinyl top, or no?

hello,
I'm restoring a 1968 lime gold mustang coupe with a black vinyl
top (289 V8 #'s car) thats going to become my daily driver in highschool. Should i leave the vinyl top in favoribility of Originality, or remove it and put black racing stripes down it?
Unfortunatly i'm staying with the lime gold color for the simple reason of, i dont want to repaint the door jams (waayy too much work for a daily driver in high school dont you think?) .
Also, if i do go with racing stripes, about how wide should they be, and should they narrow with the body like on the chevelles?
Thanks

Your car looks good in the photo . If you don't have a problem with rust under the vinyl top I would leave it like it is, it goes real nice with that color.

You have to decide how much work you want to put into it. If you remove the top you'd most likely have to repaint the roof and get the holes for the extra vinyl top molding filled. The front and rear glass may have to come out if the top has been glued far back into the window channel.

I personally don't like the tops due to them having the ability to trap moisture underneath and rust the roof out. On some cars they do look good though and your Lime Gold car is one of them plus your top seems to be in good shape.

I don't know if I was of much help but you have to decide how much you want to budget for this and decide what you want to do. If in the future you do repaint the car another color, get the trunk and underside of the hood painted too along with the door jambs.

When you replace the vinyl, check for rust, if there isn't any you may want to apply a paint sealer as a preventive mesure.

well, luckly there is no rust under the vinyl top
i've decided to go with an epoxy primer, and a good base coat to prevent any more rust from popping up.

The color of the car is one of the few that looks really good with a black vinyl top. Good luck.

Your car looks in great shape!

Post some more pics.

What does it have for options?

IMHO - I'd keep the Black Vinyl Top.

I've got a 68 X-code in the same color and black vinyl top. The black top is a great contrast to the lime gold. If you want a little more, put a black c-stripe on the sides. Mine came with this stripe from the factory and it really looks good.

The "Pony Interior" was an option for '65/'66. They called it that because it had stamped "ponys" in the vinyl seat upholstery.

'68's didn't have that. Your car would have a Deluxe Interior. The photo is blurry, but it appears you don't have the Deluxe Interior in you car right now, but it's hard to tell. You do have the Standard Interior door panels and arm rests.

sorry, my bad.. i ment "deluxe interior" not "pony interior".....
anyway, according to the code on the inner fender, it had the deluxe interior, the owner whom i bought it from put in non-deluxe interior for some reason ???
really odd, but the numbers dont lie
again, sorry i ment "deluxe", not "Pony"

You have a nice looking car, except the interior is blurry.
