The Nicholas Cage Gone in 60 seconds is by no means a great movie. The car, a 1967 GT 500 "Eleanor" originally was a bit cool because it was unique. Now that everyone has one or wants one its become a bit annoying. The only mustang fastback in any movie from that body style worth remembering is the 1968 GT 390 from Bullitt. Im sorry if this comes off harsh but Im just a bit annoyed right now and my 06 GT was just rear ended by some guy on his cell phone in a CRV. So really the purpose of this post is why do people like that car so much?

Not sure why everyone is so into the car; it looks good, but isn't something I would want to do with the original car. To much body bolt-ons for my taste.

I really like that car. I saw the movie when I was younger and it's been one of my favorites since then. But I do agree it is a bit over done lately. The Bullitt 390 is an amazing car. It would be hard for me to choose between the two. Sorry to hear about you mustang. That's really a shame. Hope everything works out for you.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes. Elanor is one bad car. It is fast it looks cool it is loud. What more can you ask for. Lots of people want one. But hey there are alot of people who want a Ferrari as well. Hope you get your car fixed soon.

It's a personal taste thing. Many liked it because of the movie, and it was different. Personally, I have never liked the hood, or the little fog lights in front.
The hood is just "off"; it doesn't flow with the lines (in my opinion) and serves no functional purpose. The lights are too much "tuner like", leave them for the imports. Put some lucas driving lights on instead.
I haven't even touched on the price; can you say "stupid expensive"?
The first Gone in 60 seconds was in 74 and Eleanor was a 73 mach1 the remake chip foose designed it as a mix of Shelby parts gt40 rims and a lot of custom parts.I drive a california special clone i get asked once a week is that Eleanor or is it a Shelby they are starting to anoyy me.
that movie is one of my favorites you need to watch with the surround sound blaring on a big screen awesome. and i think the car is great but im not chopping up my 67 fastback to make one just nice to look at
Hello. Personally, I've never understood that. The car in the movie is so wrong in so many ways that I don't know why they would even call it a Shelby. The hood, the front clip, all of those lights, the wheels, the lower side moldings, etc.. is all just wrong. That wasn't even a Shelby color. I would never have imagined that it would catch on and people would start doing that to every 67/68 fastback that they could get their hands on. But, to each his own, I guess.
Sorry to hear about your car getting hit. At least, it wasn't by an eleanor clone.
I agree, not a terrifice car, not even good. It's fine if that's what you like, but the Bullitt is much cooler and the engine is bigger
Eleanors are ok, but not the way to go, plus, as said above, they're cliche as hell

There is a SN95 Mustang not too far from me that has been decked out to look like Eleanor, and it also has a tri level ricer wing and ricer tail lights.

I believe it's because it gives them an easy "in" to the car community. Most people like cars, but most don't know much about them. So they tend to talk "movie" cars. James Bond, The Dukes, Gone in 60 seconds, Fast and Furious, TripleX, Smokey and the Bandit, Italian Job all supplied the car ignorant public with something they could recognize and admire.
They don't know Mustangs, but they know Eleanor, you have a Mustang they have movie knowledge. Now they can relate to you.
I think it's all pretty harmless, we should enjoy the Mustangs presence while we can, because everyday new movies are being made using cars.
yeah i guess youre right about that but id still take the GT 390 from Bullitt or the 57 Chevy in my profile picture over the eleanor
OMG!!!! - He wants a '57 Chevy over a modified '67 Mustang!
I love the movie Bullitt, but I think the car is rather plain without the emblems and chrome they removed for the movie. The sound effects, for most of the chase, are not from that car either, just the initial part of the chase.

how can you even compare the Eleanor mustang to the awesomeness of a tri-five chevy bel air the thing is an icon of the time not a bastardized original.
